DENTAL HEALTH FROM NEWBORNS TO TODDLERS

Jelena Pinto, Dental Hygienist

This talk is designed for moms who are interested in dental prevention strategies and tips for their newborn to toddler. Jelena will cover many dental topics such as how fermentable carbohydrates can increase the risk of dental decay to the best brushing and flossing positions for your child. We will also review which foods to eat and avoid in preventing dental decay. Strategies will also be discussed on how to discontinue thumb sucking and the pacifier habit at preferable ages. Lastly, we will talk about the first dental visit, what to expect, and how to make it a success.

Jelena Pinto is a registered dental hygienist and a guest lecturer at various dental hygiene schools and mommy groups. She has been exclusively practicing pediatrics for the past ten years. Jelena is currently practicing at Kidcrew Medical and Dental - a multidisciplinary approach to health care for children. Jelena collaborates dental hygiene treatment with Dr Lori Goldenberg and Dr Sabrina Ramjii. Jelena loves working with kids because she is a big kid at heart. Jelena enjoys chatting with her patients and listening to their stories and adventures. Jelena is also a new mom. Her little man has taught her to be more attentive, understanding, and patient. These skills have also helped in clinical practice, and have made Jelena more empathetic and understanding to her patients and their families needs. In Jelena’s spare time, she enjoys reading, baking, and the great outdoors with her loving husband and son.
