Dr. Sophia Awadia, Yonge Eyes Optometry

Dr. Sophia Awadia and Vision Therapist April Ferreira will talk about how vision can affect behaviour and success in the classroom. There are many more visual skills than seeing 20/20!

Dr. Sophia Awadia, a native of the Maritimes, grew up in Saint John, New Brunswick. After obtaining an IB diploma from Saint John High, she studied biochemistry and was awarded a Bachelor of Science degree with first class distinction at the University of New Brunswick in 1998. Upon graduation she entered the University of Waterloo, graduating with a Masters degree in Vision Science and Biology in 2002 and Doctor of Optometry degree in 2004. She worked in B.C. until 2007, after which she moved to Ontario. In 2013 she opened Yonge Eyes Optometry. Dr. Awadia is a member of the Neuro-Optometric Rehabilitiation Association, an associate of Optometry Extension Program Foundation and College of Optometrists in Vision Development. She runs a concurrent Vision Rehabilitiation practice for kids and adults with learning related visual issues, concussions, amblyopia and strabismus. She spends her time with her two children, Aydin and Saira, ages 9 and 6.5 .
